What is the search year visa (orientation year) in the Netherlands?

The search year visa allows international graduates to stay in the Netherlands for up to one year to find a job or start a business after completing their studies.

Who is eligible for a search year visa?

You are eligible if you recently graduated from a Dutch university or a top-ranked university abroad, or if you completed a PhD or research in the Netherlands. You must apply within 3 years of graduating.

How long is the search year visa valid?

The visa is valid for 12 months and cannot be extended. However, during this year, you can transition to another residence permit if you find a qualifying job.

Can I work during my search year?

Yes, you can work without restrictions. You don’t need a work permit, which makes you very attractive to employers.

Do I need a job to apply for the search year visa?

No, you do not need a job offer. The whole point of the visa is to give you time to explore the job market.
